Why should you download your Facebook content? The obvious reason is that anytime you’re storing information on someone else’s website, you should always have a copy for yourself, just in case that company disappears, changes its policies, loses its data, has its servers hacked, changes its rules about what you have access to and so on. Another reason is in case you ever want to upload your data again somewhere else, it’s much easier to do so from your own copy of your data, than to try and figure out how to migrate your content from one website to another, which isn’t always possible anyway.
Anytime you make a significant change to your content on Facebook, make a habit of downloading your content, whether it’s adding, deleting, posting or editing a lot of content, adding or editing photos or videos, changing your profile information or adding custom tabs.
Better yet, make it a habit of downloading your content on a regular basis, particularly if you use Facebook for business reasons or as a place to store photos or video.
To download your Facebook content, follow these steps:
1. Login to your personal Facebook profile
2. Under Account, click on Account Settings
3. Click on the “Learn More“ link to the right of Download Your Information.
4. Click on the “Download” button, and then in the popup window that appears, click on “Download” again (Facebook never makes it easy, do they?!)
5. Your content should start downloading, and you’ll see a message telling you that you’ll get an email when your download is ready.
Get into the habit of downloading your Facebook content on a regular basis, and you won’t regret it – it’s a few minutes of time well spent.
