Editorial: An Open Letter to Cirque de Soleil

Thumbnail image for Editorial: An Open Letter to Cirque de Soleil

Dear Cirque de Soleil, First, I need to tell you of my absolute admiration for the incredible accomplishments of Cirque de Soleil – artistic and creative, ingenious and inventive, athletic and graceful, masterful and musical – just a true joy to watch and experience the “grandest circus” of them all. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing 3 Cirque de Soleil shows in my life, the first was Saltimbanco in Seattle about 12 years ago, the second was Zumanity in Las Vegas 6 years ago, and last weekend I saw Totem in San Francisco – all of them beautifully executed with [...]

Iconic Film Critic Roger Ebert Remakes His Voice

Roger Ebert has been an iconic film critic along with his longtime partner, Gene Siskel, who passed away in 1999. If you recall, Siskel and Ebert had a  long-running television show that critiqued movies with their famous “thumbs up/thumbs down” and genial banter, and it was a pleasure to watch for any of us who love the movies. This is Roger’s moving story in a TED talk about the loss of his lower jaw to cancer, and his struggle to find and remake his “voice”, and how technology has helped him.

Steve Jobs introduces the new Apple.TV

Thumbnail image for Steve Jobs introduces the new Apple.TV

Steve Jobs introduced the new and improved Apple TV at the Apple September 2010 Music Event – it’s a media streamer, rather than an actual TV – with the ability to stream content instead of store content, which makes sense when you think of the enormous file sizes involved with full-length TV shows and movies. Apple TVs have been around for about 4 years, but never became really popular. After studying what Apple TV users really want, Apple decided to introduce a new version with new and improved features including HD, lower prices for content, and Hollywood movies and TV [...]

Facebook announced the release of their newest feature Places today, a new way for people on Facebook to let people know where they are, see where their friends have checked in, and discover places nearby. Last Airbender Movie is Actually a Comedy…

The Last Airbender movie

Wow – fantastic. I just read a brilliant review on The Last Airbender movie, by Charlie Jane Anders, a science fiction writer and reviewer for io9.com, entitled M. Night Shyamalan Finally Made A Comedy. Thank you Charlie, for putting my thoughts about this movie into such a succinct, descriptive and accurate review… my son and daughter have watched all the original Airbender shows on tv and they and their friends were horribly disappointed by the movie…can we demand a re-make (by another director, perhaps Peter Jackson…) ?!?

There’s a lesson to be learned by Education from the story about Domino’s Pizza and YouTube – employees of Domino’s Pizza made a video of themselves doing pretty disgusting things and then posted the video to YouTube…a company’s worst nightmare?

Thumbnail image for New Twitter media portal: “Social Viewing” boosts television viewership on Bad Girls Club

Twitter has launched a new media portal site with tools, knowledge, tips and tricks for conventional media… The site includes case studies like the OxygenLive experiment in which the Oxygen network piloted a social viewing component to it’s 4th season opener of Bad Girls Club – and significantly boosted it’s ratings. OxygenLive is an experience for viewers which is a combination of feeds—live video from show talent alongside questions and answers in a CoverItLive widget and, of course, tweets. Take a look at it here; Oxygen is now rolling the program out across the entire network. What’s most significant about this experiment [...]
