Facebook Timeline Finally Available To Everyone Worldwide

Thumbnail image for Facebook Timeline Finally Available To Everyone Worldwide

Facebook has announced an update on the Facebook blog today that the rollout of Timeline, its new profile page concept and layout, is now available wordwide. Timeline was originally introduced at the Facebook f8 conference on September 22, 2011, but was limited to only a few people and those who took the time to install the “developer” version (yes, for geeks like me who couldn’t wait). Timeline is, according to Facebook, “…a new kind of profile that lets you highlight the photos, posts and life events that help you tell your story”. It looks completely different from the “old” Facebook, which was [...]

Editorial: An Open Letter to Cirque de Soleil

Thumbnail image for Editorial: An Open Letter to Cirque de Soleil

Dear Cirque de Soleil, First, I need to tell you of my absolute admiration for the incredible accomplishments of Cirque de Soleil – artistic and creative, ingenious and inventive, athletic and graceful, masterful and musical – just a true joy to watch and experience the “grandest circus” of them all. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing 3 Cirque de Soleil shows in my life, the first was Saltimbanco in Seattle about 12 years ago, the second was Zumanity in Las Vegas 6 years ago, and last weekend I saw Totem in San Francisco – all of them beautifully executed with [...]

Some Rules Are Meant To Be Broken…

Thumbnail image for Some Rules Are Meant To Be Broken…

[Updated 11/20/2011] My favorite game when I was 8 years old was Monopoly. I loved the idea of owning property, building a kingdom, the risks and rewards – and I loved the rules. Taking turns to move around the board, getting paid if someone landed on your property, 3 turns to get out of jail without doubles and without a Get Out of Jail card…lots of options, lots of possibilities. When you were a child, you naturally loved to play games. You learned the accepted pattern…and sometimes, you figured out what you could do to change the pattern and make it more interesting. Still [...]

My Personal Condolences to the Families of Steve Jobs:

Thumbnail image for My Personal Condolences to the Families of Steve Jobs:

Please allow me to extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the personal and professional families of Steve Jobs, a true visionary in every sense of the word. While I did not know him personally, his passion for design excellence in everything he did as well as his willingness to fail and continue believing in himself has inspired me to and countless other millions of others who live in that murky cross-section between art, design and technology. Steve made it cool to be nerdy and creative at the same time. Whether you’re a software geek, an industrial designer, an art [...]

Those Pesky Facebook Thumbnails…And How To Get Them To Work

Thumbnail image for Those Pesky Facebook Thumbnails…And How To Get Them To Work

One of the ways to add more content to Facebook posts is by adding a hyperlink to an external website (for example another web page or a video on YouTube). When you add a link, you may see those Facebook thumbnails on various posts – small image or video thumbnails that appear on the left side of many posts on your news stream or other people’s walls. The question is how do they appear, and why is it that sometimes when you try and post a link to a post, the image that you thought would appear as a thumbnail just [...]

Getting Heard in a Brave New Digital World

Thumbnail image for Getting Heard in a Brave New Digital World

There’s an awful lot of noise out there in the world wide web. New concepts. New words. Stuff that most of us had barely even heard of 10 years ago. Websites. Blogs. Search Optimization. Search. SEO/SEM. Online Advertising. Social Media. Social networking. Digital Resumes. Mobile Applications. iPads, iPhones… Tweeting used to be done by birds. Rockstars were musicians, not social media wannabe  ”gurus”. And Facebook was just a simple way for  students to connect – not a gargantuan mega-database of nearly 1  of every 7 people on the planet.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Big, Bad QR Code

Thumbnail image for Don’t Be Afraid of the Big, Bad QR Code

I don’t see QR Codes fading into the realm of techno-gimmick anytime soon. A recent article in Print Solutions Magazine provides some compelling data that clearly suggests the opposite. The number of Americans who are only using mobile devices is dramatically increasing. From Print Solutions Magazine: “After all, one in five U.S. mobile phone owners uses the mobile Internet every day (“2011 Mobile Internet Attitudes Report,” Antenna Software). Not only this but according to On Device Research, 25 percent of U.S. mobile phone users are mobile only. In other words, they do not (or very rarely use) a desktop, laptop [...]
