Mary Meeker on Mobile Marketing

Mary Meeker, former Morgan Stanley analyst, spoke at a Google event recently about mobile marketing.  Meeker noted that so far it has been difficult for mobile publishers to create consistent ad-based revenue because of high costs to do so. On the other hand she states that mobile advertising is more efficient than in other types of media across measures like reach, engagement and targeting. Mary especially suggested smartphones can make TV interactive through video contents and ads. The biggest challenge is still on execution, though – mobile is still “new” technology. Facebook announced the release of their newest feature Places today, a new way for people on Facebook to let people know where they are, see where their friends have checked in, and discover places nearby. If you’re a Facebook user, you now have the option to share your location by “checking in” whereever you are – and let friends know where you are too.
