Facebook Timeline Finally Available To Everyone Worldwide

Thumbnail image for Facebook Timeline Finally Available To Everyone Worldwide

Facebook has announced an update on the Facebook blog today that the rollout of Timeline, its new profile page concept and layout, is now available wordwide. Timeline was originally introduced at the Facebook f8 conference on September 22, 2011, but was limited to only a few people and those who took the time to install the “developer” version (yes, for geeks like me who couldn’t wait). Timeline is, according to Facebook, “…a new kind of profile that lets you highlight the photos, posts and life events that help you tell your story”. It looks completely different from the “old” Facebook, which was [...]

Thumbnail image for Facebook Settles FTC Charges of Consumer Deception and Privacy Promises

Facebook, the most popular social network in the world with close to 800 million users, has agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges against Facebook that it deceived consumers by telling them they could keep their information on Facebook private, and then repeatedly allowing that same information to be shared and made public. In a blog post on November 29th, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and Founder of Facebook made a  ”Commitment to the Facebook Community” that addresses the FTC settlement and outlines steps he’s taking to comply with the agreement. The FTC complaint against Facebook lists a number of instances in which Facebook [...]

How To Post a Comment to Facebook Business Page as Yourself

Thumbnail image for How To Post a Comment to Facebook Business Page as Yourself

I recently received a Facebook question from someone who’s become a volunteer Facebook Page Administrator for her son’s school – a question I’ve had a few times on how to post a comment to a Facebook Page as yourself if you’re the administrator of the page: Q. Greetings Roohi, I hope this finds you well. I wanted to ask you this: I have become an administrator for my son’s school. Even when I am not signed on as the admin for using the page, if I want to write a comment on the school’s FB page it shows me as [...]

Those Pesky Facebook Thumbnails…And How To Get Them To Work

Thumbnail image for Those Pesky Facebook Thumbnails…And How To Get Them To Work

One of the ways to add more content to Facebook posts is by adding a hyperlink to an external website (for example another web page or a video on YouTube). When you add a link, you may see those Facebook thumbnails on various posts – small image or video thumbnails that appear on the left side of many posts on your news stream or other people’s walls. The question is how do they appear, and why is it that sometimes when you try and post a link to a post, the image that you thought would appear as a thumbnail just [...]

How to Cross-Publish Posts from Twitter to Facebook

Thumbnail image for How to Cross-Publish Posts from Twitter to Facebook

One of the ways you can share content between your social networks is to allow your  accounts to connect or “sync” with each other. On Facebook, you can connect your Twitter account to your Facebook Page so that your “Tweets” automatically appear as Facebook Page posts on your Page Wall. You can also link your Twitter and Facebook accounts so that your Facebook posts appear as Tweets on Twitter. This means that you can share information with both your Twitter followers as well as your Facebook fans. How To Connect With Twitter There are several different ways you can connect Facebook with Twitter so [...]

Let’s Get Personal: What Facebook Ads Can Do For Your Business

Thumbnail image for Let’s Get Personal: What Facebook Ads Can Do For Your Business

Leo Burnett, an American advertising icon, once said “…in the advertising din of today, unless you make yourself noticed and believed, you ain’t got nothin’…” That sentiment couldn’t be more true today, in the Age of Information and mass media. As the social media giant of today (who knows which company will bear that banner in a year or two from now?) – Facebook is the Ultimate Personalized Platform – a wealth of demographic and psychographic information. A true customer goldmine for marketers, it’s one of the primary reasons businesses are flocking to Facebook in droves.

To Post or Not To Post: How Often Should You Post on Facebook?

Thumbnail image for To Post or Not To Post: How Often Should You Post on Facebook?

How Often Is Enough? One of the most common questions about posting on Facebook is “How Often is Enough – or Too Much?” The answer isn’t a simple one. The real question is “How often will my posts be seen by my visitors?” If you post too little, you defeat the whole purpose of being on Facebook, which is to stay top of mind and visible. If you post too much, you may become annoying, and even end up “Unliked” by visitors.

Non! to Facebook, Twitter: France Bans On-Air Mentions

Thumbnail image for Non! to Facebook, Twitter: France Bans On-Air Mentions

Leave it to the French to come up with another ban – this time it’s on-air mention of Facebook and Twitter. Ah, yes – the logic of banning the internet on television – somewhat ironic, to say the least. Here’s what one of the CSA – the French TV regulatory agency Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel -  regulators had to say: “Why give preference to Facebook, which is worth billions of dollars, when there are many other social networks that are struggling for recognition? This would be a distortion of competition. If we allow Facebook and Twitter to be cited on air, [...]

A Web of One: How Facebook and Google Are Isolating Us From What’s Important

This is a great video from TED, well worth watching. Eli Pariser, online organizer and MoveOn.org‘s Executive Director of Political Action, is the speaker, talking about how personalization and information filtering by giants like Facebook and Google are diminishing the quality of our information in our lives instead of increasing it.

Facebook Announces Partnership with Web Of Trust To Enhance Security

Thumbnail image for Facebook Announces Partnership with Web Of Trust To Enhance Security

Facebook has just announced a partnership today with Web of Trust, a free tool that leverages crowd-sourcing to determine the “trust” factor of websites. WOT has built a database of “safe” websites based on the ratings of millions of users who have rated millions of websites based on their experiences. To rate a website, you need to have a WOT account (free) and download an add-on for the browser you use.  The WOT add-on tells you which sites you can trust when using Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, Bing, Wikipedia and other popular sites. The free add-on works with Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, [...]
