The Top 5 Photos Banner on Your Wall…and How They Got There

Thumbnail image for The Top 5 Photos Banner on Your Wall…and How They Got There

When Facebook released it’s New Profile and Wall layout in March, we all got a brand new “feature” at the top of our Wall: the Top 5 Photos Banner (yes, it’s an awkward name but if you can come up with something catchier, I’m all ears). This 5-photo banner appears on both personal Pages as well as Facebook business Pages and is meant to be a “visual” opportunity to display who we are. This post looks at how these images get to this coveted position on your Wall, and some tips on managing these images. Let’s start with some examples.

Thumbnail image for Top 34 Social Media To-Do’s for Marketing Managers

While still very young, social media is beginning to mature in its meteoric rise to marketing stardom, and businesses have begun to recognize the importance of implementing an organized structure to managing their social media efforts. I’ve organized this list of social media marketing “To-Do’s” into five groups of what I would call the primary activities required for anyone who’s involved in executing social media campaigns and strategies for businesses: Listen, Monitor, Engage, Manage and Measure. You can use this list to organize your marketing activities and ensure that you’re executing against each area on a regular basis.

Thumbnail image for Top 3 Tips for Search-Engine and User-Friendly Images and Video

If you post content for your website, blog, Facebook or any other place online, it’s essential to optimize any pictures or video you include as part of that content. Images and Video are not naturally search-engine friendly – because search engines use algorithms that can only scan text-based information. Search engines don’t know anything about images and video other than what you tell them. Never Say Never: Online Privacy in Real Estate Transactions

Thumbnail image for Never Say Never: Online Privacy in Real Estate Transactions

For most people, buying or selling a home is the single largest monetary transaction of their lives.  For most buyers and sellers it is an undisputable “given” that the real estate agent/ broker that obtains or sees their personal/private information in the myriad of steps along the way knows the rules of privacy laws and would never compromise such information. Communicating their information to anyone not directly related to the transaction, including independent contractors or via the Internet or Social Media networks is outside the standard expectations of a home buyer or seller. NEVER SAY NEVER. Picture this, a true [...]

Thumbnail image for How To Create a Custom Page Reveal for Facebook Fans

You’ve seen them everywhere on Facebook – those fancy “reveals” that when you “Like” a page and become a fan you get to see a special bit of content, maybe a coupon, special offer or other “fan-only” cool stuff. This is what’s known as a “Reveal” – and is an opportunity for you as a business to “reward” your fans when they land on your business Page. If you’re not a fan you see a sign that [...]

The Top 25 Reasons Businesses Fail at Social Media

Not Listening

Businesses are jumping onto Social Media in droves, but many aren’t succeeding and are completely mystified as to why their efforts aren’t bringing the results they expected. After all, they’ve been tweeting once a week for the last 3 months, so why don’t they have a thousand followers? And they put up a profile on Facebook, and posted directions to their store, so where are all the fans? And no, it’s not enough to simply setup an account and put a Twitter/Facebook/YouTube icon on your website, though it’s a start. The basics of social media marketing still seem to be [...]

Tag You’re It: A Facebook Tagging Primer

Tag Illustration

With the ability to tag people, Facebook introduced a new level of social contact online. Tagging allows you to let someone else know that you “saw” or want to connect with them by letting them know they’ve been “tagged”. Tags are simply a form of hyperlink that you can create either on a photo, a post, a comment, or a video, on Facebook. But it can sometimes be a bit of a minefield to navigate – how do you know when it’s ok to tag someone? Or be tagged? I know I’ve been tagged in a couple of semi-flattering pictures, [...]

Facebook Pioneers Eco-friendly Social Computing

Green on Facebook - Eco-friendly Social Computing

No-one can say that Mark Zuckerberg isn’t a social pioneer in the truest sense of the word. Announcing the “Open Compute Project” yesterday at an event in Palo Alto, California, Facebook’s CEO and Founder  said he hoped that the unusual move to share information about Facebook’s new eco-friendly hardware, servers and building design would spur the technology industry to collaborate more openly on best practices and innovation. Why is this unusual? Most major technology companies, including Google and Microsoft, keep a tight lid on their hardware infrastructure, due to the risks and experiences of viruses, hacking and corporate espionage. The more [...]
