Some Rules Are Meant To Be Broken…

Thumbnail image for Some Rules Are Meant To Be Broken…

[Updated 11/20/2011] My favorite game when I was 8 years old was Monopoly. I loved the idea of owning property, building a kingdom, the risks and rewards – and I loved the rules. Taking turns to move around the board, getting paid if someone landed on your property, 3 turns to get out of jail without doubles and without a Get Out of Jail card…lots of options, lots of possibilities. You learned the accepted pattern…and sometimes, you figured out what you could do to change the pattern and make it more interesting. Still [...]

Thumbnail image for Top 34 Social Media To-Do’s for Marketing Managers

While still very young, social media is beginning to mature in its meteoric rise to marketing stardom, and businesses have begun to recognize the importance of implementing an organized structure to managing their social media efforts. I’ve organized this list of social media marketing “To-Do’s” into five groups of what I would call the primary activities required for anyone who’s involved in executing social media campaigns and strategies for businesses: Listen, Monitor, Engage, Manage and Measure. How to Write a Quality Blog Post – Do Links and Tags Matter?

Search engines like Google consider blogs to be of higher value when you have a few links in the blog post to other/external websites, because they consider this type of information to be more useful and informative to a reader. Content that a reader will find useful is of much higher value to a search engine, because it helps to create better results for users who are using the search engine to find results that are relevant to the search terms they enter. For example, if you’ve written a post about local real estate and include a reference to a [...]

Thumbnail image for The Kenyan Farmer, His Potato Crop…and Facebook

So last week, I had coffee with a friend who told me about a program he heard on NPR (our national public radio show for those of you in other lands) – and a story about a Kenyan farmer who saved his potato crop by sheer willpower. I was so intrigued by the story, I went home, got online and Googled “Kenyan farmer potato crop” – and found Zack Matere and his inspiring story… Zack lives in Seregaya, Kenya, an agricultural community where his potato crop was in danger from an unknown pest. “I cycled 10km to the local cyber [...]
