Google is taking on online retail mammoths like Amazon and Apple and has launched it’s new online digital eBook service, Google eBooks. Users can now buy books through books.google.com/ebooks and read and access those books on a variety of devices, including tablets, computers, smartphones and open format e-readers. Starting Monday, Google released e-book buying and reading apps for Apple’s iPhone, iTouch and iPad as well as Android mobile devices.

Facebook Ads Reach 62.4% of All Online Americans

Thumbnail image for Facebook Ads Reach 62.4% of All Online Americans

Online reach of social network advertising is growing rapidly, and Facebook is the glaring winner – for now. A study published by comScore on October 20th shows that Facebook ads reach 62.4% of all Americans online – 10 times as many of those who are on LinkedIn, and 20 times as many of those who are on Twitter. Facebook has historically had a dismal clickthru rate until recently, but perhaps it doesn’t matter anyway because of the sheer volume of traffic that now passes through Facebook? Seems to me that Facebook advertising could quickly become the equivalent of Google’s ad [...]

Steve Jobs introduces the new Apple.TV

Thumbnail image for Steve Jobs introduces the new Apple.TV

Steve Jobs introduced the new and improved Apple TV at the Apple September 2010 Music Event – it’s a media streamer, rather than an actual TV – with the ability to stream content instead of store content, which makes sense when you think of the enormous file sizes involved with full-length TV shows and movies. Apple TVs have been around for about 4 years, but never became really popular. After studying what Apple TV users really want, Apple decided to introduce a new version with new and improved features including HD, lower prices for content, and Hollywood movies and TV [...]

As of September 15th, Facebook Chat will no longer be supported in IE 6 (Internet Explorer browser version 6). Facebook Chat, Facebook’s answer to instant messaging, is the little popup you see every so often in the bottom right corner of your Facebook profile that lets you chat with other Facebook friends while you’re logged into Facebook. Facebook Chat was launched just 2 years ago, and is now used by people all over the world as an easy, instant way to communicate and stay updated.

Twitter launches “Twitter Tales”

Thumbnail image for Twitter launches “Twitter Tales”

Twitter recently launched “Twitter Tales” –  a new way for people to tell their stories a couple of days ago consisting of articles that highlight creative individuals and businesses who are using Twitter in innovative and interesting ways. Categories include Humor, Life and Community. The first stories are from @natashabadhwar ( Life), a mother/filmmaker/photographer/writer from New Delhi who sees Twitter as a form of self therapy, @caltrain (Community), a crowd-sourced Twitter account where people can help others avoid pitfalls on their daily commute, and @thebloggess (Humor) who provides a witty and honest behind the scenes look into her blog writing. Take a look, maybe you’ll [...]

The Kenyan Farmer, His Potato Crop…and Facebook

Thumbnail image for The Kenyan Farmer, His Potato Crop…and Facebook

So last week, I had coffee with a friend who told me about a program he heard on NPR (our national public radio show for those of you in other lands) – and a story about a Kenyan farmer who saved his potato crop by sheer willpower. I was so intrigued by the story, I went home, got online and Googled “Kenyan farmer potato crop” – and found Zack Matere and his inspiring story… Zack lives in Seregaya, Kenya, an agricultural community where his potato crop was in danger from an unknown pest. “I cycled 10km to the local cyber [...]
