United Breaks Guitars: The Power of One

Yes, this Youtube video of Dave Carroll and the story of his struggle with United Airlines for breaking his Taylor Guitar is from several years ago but worth re-posting – a great example of the power of the digital citizen and how one person can sway the opinion of millions with a simple, great story, imaginative delivery and a few clicks of a keyboard.

My Personal Condolences to the Families of Steve Jobs:

Thumbnail image for My Personal Condolences to the Families of Steve Jobs:

Please allow me to extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the personal and professional families of Steve Jobs, a true visionary in every sense of the word. While I did not know him personally, his passion for design excellence in everything he did as well as his willingness to fail and continue believing in himself has inspired me to and countless other millions of others who live in that murky cross-section between art, design and technology. Steve made it cool to be nerdy and creative at the same time. Whether you’re a software geek, an industrial designer, an art [...]

Those Pesky Facebook Thumbnails…And How To Get Them To Work

Thumbnail image for Those Pesky Facebook Thumbnails…And How To Get Them To Work

One of the ways to add more content to Facebook posts is by adding a hyperlink to an external website (for example another web page or a video on YouTube). When you add a link, you may see those Facebook thumbnails on various posts – small image or video thumbnails that appear on the left side of many posts on your news stream or other people’s walls. The question is how do they appear, and why is it that sometimes when you try and post a link to a post, the image that you thought would appear as a thumbnail just [...]

Getting Heard in a Brave New Digital World

Thumbnail image for Getting Heard in a Brave New Digital World

There’s an awful lot of noise out there in the world wide web. New concepts. New words. Stuff that most of us had barely even heard of 10 years ago. Websites. Blogs. Search Optimization. Search. SEO/SEM. Online Advertising. Social Media. Social networking. Digital Resumes. Mobile Applications. iPads, iPhones… Tweeting used to be done by birds. Rockstars were musicians, not social media wannabe  ”gurus”. And Facebook was just a simple way for  students to connect – not a gargantuan mega-database of nearly 1  of every 7 people on the planet.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Big, Bad QR Code

Thumbnail image for Don’t Be Afraid of the Big, Bad QR Code

I don’t see QR Codes fading into the realm of techno-gimmick anytime soon. A recent article in Print Solutions Magazine provides some compelling data that clearly suggests the opposite. The number of Americans who are only using mobile devices is dramatically increasing. From Print Solutions Magazine: “After all, one in five U.S. mobile phone owners uses the mobile Internet every day (“2011 Mobile Internet Attitudes Report,” Antenna Software). Not only this but according to On Device Research, 25 percent of U.S. mobile phone users are mobile only. In other words, they do not (or very rarely use) a desktop, laptop [...]

How to Cross-Publish Posts from Twitter to Facebook

Thumbnail image for How to Cross-Publish Posts from Twitter to Facebook

One of the ways you can share content between your social networks is to allow your  accounts to connect or “sync” with each other. On Facebook, you can connect your Twitter account to your Facebook Page so that your “Tweets” automatically appear as Facebook Page posts on your Page Wall. You can also link your Twitter and Facebook accounts so that your Facebook posts appear as Tweets on Twitter. This means that you can share information with both your Twitter followers as well as your Facebook fans. How To Connect With Twitter There are several different ways you can connect Facebook with Twitter so [...]

Let’s Get Personal: What Facebook Ads Can Do For Your Business

Thumbnail image for Let’s Get Personal: What Facebook Ads Can Do For Your Business

Leo Burnett, an American advertising icon, once said “…in the advertising din of today, unless you make yourself noticed and believed, you ain’t got nothin’…” That sentiment couldn’t be more true today, in the Age of Information and mass media. As the social media giant of today (who knows which company will bear that banner in a year or two from now?) – Facebook is the Ultimate Personalized Platform – a wealth of demographic and psychographic information. A true customer goldmine for marketers, it’s one of the primary reasons businesses are flocking to Facebook in droves.

To Post or Not To Post: How Often Should You Post on Facebook?

Thumbnail image for To Post or Not To Post: How Often Should You Post on Facebook?

How Often Is Enough? One of the most common questions about posting on Facebook is “How Often is Enough – or Too Much?” The answer isn’t a simple one. The real question is “How often will my posts be seen by my visitors?” If you post too little, you defeat the whole purpose of being on Facebook, which is to stay top of mind and visible. If you post too much, you may become annoying, and even end up “Unliked” by visitors.

How Much Is A Customer Really Worth to You?

Thumbnail image for How Much Is A Customer Really Worth to You?

Do you know how much a customer is really worth to your business? Many small businesses think of their customers as one-time, single purchase customers. But not only do you generate more revenue from a customer who buys your product more than once, you’ve also reduced the cost of acquiring that customer, since you didn’t have to work as hard for the second sale. In addition, if that customer is happy, they could also potentially be an evangelist of your products, and tell their friends and colleagues about your business. Nurturing repeat customers by creating personalized experiences and building ongoing [...]

Sneak Peek at Windows 8: Touch Screen for PCs

Thumbnail image for Sneak Peek at Windows 8: Touch Screen for PCs

Introduced just a few days ago by Julie Larson-Green, corporate vice president, Windows Experience, Windows 8 is a “reimagining of Windows, from the chip to the interface”, a new kind of operating system for a new generation of touch-centric hardware. The new Windows 8 interface is very visually driven. The Start screen now consists of a mosaic of tiles – each app show more information – each application is full screen, and works with touch as well as mouse and keyboard. Some of the new features include: Full-sized, customizable “Tile-based” Start screen, replacing the Windows “Start” menu Applications can be brought [...]
